In 2012, the fire district separated into the Reno Fire Department and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD). The division of the district into the two agencies left some gaps in coverage for the Verdi and unincorporated Caughlin Ranch area. The Mogul Fire Station No. 35 was needed to maintain an eight-minute response time to portions of unincorporated Washoe County. Washoe County purchased a five-acre property located in the Mogul vicinity. An existing lob cabin house was demolished and replaced with a ±2,712 square foot fire station and a ±3,702 square foot apparatus bay. Working with Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects, CFA provided entitlement approvals, surveying and civil engineering services. The ground breaking was held in November of 2013.
