One Truckee River is an initiative working together for a sustainable, clean, thriving river community recognized in the hearts and minds of all. The plan was designed to address community challenges, that had either been handled inconsistently, or not at all. The Truckee River Management Plan is a collaboration of river partners for both short term and long term management objectives that coordinate within jurisdictional boundaries for a “One Truckee River” plan. CFA was hired by the Nevada Land Trust and Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful to write the One Truckee River Management Plan. The plan was the culmination of a collaborative effort among community leaders and stakeholders to develop a shared vision of the Truckee River and a plan to achieve it. The plan identified over 140 strategies and action items needed to implement the One Truckee River Vision. Over 120 stakeholders participated during 18-month long process to develop the plan. The primary goals of the plan were to protect water quality and ecosystem health; create and sustain a safe, beautiful and accessible River; build an aware community; and ensure the sustainable management of the River. The plan was written to manage, protect and provide stewardship for the Truckee River, extending across all jurisdictional boundaries. CFA teamed with OnStrategy, Resource Concepts and the University of Nevada, Reno to prepare the plan. The plan was written in 2016, and was unanimously approved for formal adoption by the Sparks City Council, Washoe County Commission and Reno City Council in September 2016.
