In 2013 the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents approved the lease agreement between UNR and private developer Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, to construct a Graduate Family Student Housing project on the east side of the UNR campus. The University will lease the property to Balfour Beatty for 42 years, and over this period the company will finance, construct and own the approximately $20 million complex. At the end of the lease period, the University will own the complex. The project includes a three story apartment building with 120 units. The new building will replace the outdated Graduate Family Housing complex located at 1775 Evans Avenue, which was built in 1960 and only accommodated 40 one-bedroom units. The new facility will better accommodate the needs of current students, as well as help make the campus more attractive to those considering pursuing their graduate education at the University. CFA worked with BLT Architects and provided civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture services. The project held its grand opening in August of 2014.
